DMFD Cub Chair

Cork. It’s sustainable, hypoallergenic and waterproof. So of course it would make the ideal children’s chair.

The Cub chair is handmade in Brooklyn by furniture designer Daniel Michalik (who also happens to be one heck of a guy). All of his pieces are made top to bottom from cast cork granules. Reclaiming waste from the bottle stopper industry, Daniel also uses an ecologically sound binding agent. To learn more about Daniel & his amazing furniture go here.

My daughter Violet loves her cub chair. The texture alone keeps her occupied forever and it’s nice and heavy so I don’t have to worry too much about her flipping it over (and/or throwing it across the room). While being heavy, the general nature of cork is pretty cushy so I know she won’t sustain any injuries from it, which is also a nice relief! Even after all the spills and general toddler abuse, it still looks really nice. I love knowing that this chair was handmade, by an actual person and that it’s so ecologically sound. The cub chair will run you about 230.00 but consider it as buying a really nice piece of sculpture for your home. Please visit www.danielmichalik.com for more information.
